Spider-Man: Brand New Day Review – BEST Spider-Man Movie Since No Way Home ?

The “SpiderMan: Brand New Day” movie has been released and has completely blown fans away. But did the movie focus too much on one side ?

Spiderman, after making a splash with “No Way Home”, returns to Tom Holland for his new Spiderman adventure. The plot of the movie was very simple. In “No Way Home”, the world had forgotten Peter Parker. After losing aunt May, he no longer wanted to reveal his identity to his close friends and get them into trouble. That’s why he has been working day and night for the last four years trying to find a new balance in helping the people of New York. He is facing new mushrooming villains, dealing with crime syndicate, etc.
But the thing is that he is doing all this alone. With all these self taken responsibilities, he is experiencing new changes and powers in himself which are scaring him.

In the film, Peter anonymously protects New York City as the hero SpiderMan and investigates a powerful new threat while his superpowers undergo a surprising and potentially dangerous evolution.

If I explain the story of this movie in a few words, then I would say that it is a “Grounded Heroism”. Where the penultimate Spiderman movie was dealing with ‘multiverse troubles’, this movie is dealing with troubles and mess solely in New York city.

This story is very well intertwined with the past and present of
the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the “HOMECOMING” was all about Peter, as Spiderman, understanding his responsibilities, whether anyone helps him or not; “FAR FROM HOME” focuses on how he needs to be cautious with his responsibilities and trust his senses, and then the “NO WAY HOME” teaches him that making certain sacrifices is crucial to being Spiderman.

In this story, Peter is both learning himself and teaching others. A perfect story to show how far our hero, Peter Parker, has come in his marvelous journey.

The movie was written by Chris McKwnna and Eric Sommers. These two have written all of Spider-Man’s films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and they perfectly showcase their action-packed, emotional raw emotion in this movie.

What I liked most was that the PUNISHER’s story was very different from the stories of all the MCU’s characters. His story is blended perfectly and seamlessly with the story of Spiderman. It’s also nice to see “Mental Health”
brought back into focus after the “Thunderbolts”, further enhancing the story’s value.

Speaking of acting, Tom Holland, who plays Spiderman or Peter Parker, gave another stellar performance. This time, Tom Holland is today’s generation’s Spiderman, demonstrating what it means to be Spiderman in today’s times. He perfectly showed that Spiderman is all grown up now. I am amazed at watching the versatility of Tom Holland. Just a few days ago he was playing a helpless son in the movie “The Odyssey” and now he is playing a lonely adult.

Jon Bernthal has played the role of “Punisher” or Frank Castle. I am one of those people who is literally of the view that Jon Bernthal’s acting in all the series and movies feel the same. But in this movie, I can confidently say that Jon Bernthal was born to play the “Punisher”. His anger and sadness are perfectly portrayed.  Also, in his performance, I have to say that Jon portrays New York with such intensity that no one else can have done that. He seemed like a New Yorker to me even in Odyssey.

Zendaya returned to her MJ role. While she didn’t have much of a role in the movie, but what little she did was powerful. Showing understanding through her character and concern for Spiderman feels perfect on screen.

But Jacob Batalon’s Ned leads are the real scene stealer, a character who has forgotten to his friend. He is showing cheerfulness on the outside but missing something deep inside, which he is not able to grasp. This arch of his character is not so important, but some moments will come where you will feel that his character itself is the soul.

Talking about Sadie Sink or Jean Grey in this movie, her role is a secret but also the most important one. The technical story of this movie is the story of Sadie Sink’s character which is shown through the Spiderman’s struggles, where Sadie brought tremendous life to her character with her emotions. She showed that she can play a powerful character very perfectly.

Mark Ruffalo is also there in the role of Bruce Banner, the “Hulk”.
Michael Mando came back with his role of McGargan or Scorpion. Their performances are impactful but they are side characters.

The real highlight in the movie was Tramell Tillman, who brought his seven-year-old millennial character to his character William Metzger. That face of “The Odyssey” which is stuck in making the world safe.

Speaking of directors, the last three MCU Spiderman movies were directed by John Watts. There’s a John touch to the previous Spiderman trilogy, but this Spiderman movie is directed by Dustin Daniel Critten. Although we see more action, yet a different perspective comes out from the Spiderman. It seemed that their focus was more on practical performance. The real-life swing had a few cuts, but it looked good. While you might be mistaken, I would still say that the swinging of Spiderman by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were much better. To date, the opening shot of “The Amazing Spiderman” is still the best swinging scene in my opinion. But then the touch of destiny told me that we were looking at a different mature adult Spiderman story. I think it was also a good decision to hire a separate director for the new arch, which is being moved to a different location.

Speaking of action, the movie is packed. From top to bottom, action, jump, Spiderman’s fight with Ninja, his small and big goons, and the big villains. It felt like from him getting beaten up to him beating up the person in front of him, everything is perfectly choreographed. No doubt, Tom Holland was injured during the shooting of this movie. It’s obvious when so many action scenes are performed, the actor may get hurt.

You will surely appreciate the work of the VFX and CGI. SONY can fumble anywhere, but when it comes to the story of Spiderman, then it don’t fumble, it becomes synonymous to perfection.

Overall, I’m not sugarcoating anything. Spiderman: Brand New Day is a cinema. The core theme of this Spiderman Story is “giving priority to one’s personal life and health along with professional obligations”. This movie illustrates very well that there are very few merits and more demerits of not having friends. From the movie’s creators, it had been promised that they will give us an appealing and grounded Spiderman story, and they have fulfilled their promise.

The movie has some big reveals, entertaining with its action and story. Worth watching it.
